High-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) spraying of coatings was developed to apply ultrahard,

corrosion-resistant coatings to steel substrates. Tungsten carbide powders are injected into a high-velocity stream of fuel and oxygen to atomize and supersonically impinge on the surface of the part to be coated.

The coating thickness of several mils to 0.5 mm.
